Each strain development project starts with a concept design phase where our experts analyse your sequence(s) of interest and related literature, to make a tailored proposal for strain development. It also considers specific requirements of the customer or regulatory bodies.
Initially several expression strategies are tested in parallel. A small number of clones is screened. A follow-up high-throughput screening is performed for the most promising strategies. The expression levels of high producing strains are verified in replicates. Finally, the best strains are cultivated in lab-scale bioreactors. Sample material from bioreactor cultivations can be provided to customer for in-house evaluation. Data generated in bioreactor cultivations allows a first assessment of the expected process performance at industrial scale.
